No other suction system, industrial hood <\/a><\/span>or pipe, can protect workers better than the suction arm in the metallurgical industry. This is because it prevents the accumulation of welding fumes, oil mist or processing dust.<\/p>\n

Obviously the use of the flexible suction arm or rigid tubes<\/strong> is a good method to suck fumes and dust when working on small or medium-sized objects, more or less easily accessible from the wall or column on which the suction arm is fixed, which must be able to operate comfortably in the operator\u2019s working area.<\/p>\n

In this technical article we will see how a suction arm is made<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
From the drawing on the right you can see the basic elements that make up any suction arm. However, there may be some dimensional differences depending on the manufacturer, but they are usually all made up of:<\/p>\n

1. Suction pipes<\/strong>, that is the pipes where the fumes and pollutants sucked in by the arm
\n2. Support structure<\/strong>, we colored it in red to make it notice, it is the most important component of a good suction arm, what makes it self-supporting, that is, it stays “suspended” in the vacuum
\n3. Extractor hood<\/strong>, the one that handles the operator to move the suction arm and the one that aerodynamically “catches” the pollutants.
\n4. Support bracket<\/strong>, depending on where and how the suction arm is installed it can be wall or column with extension or trolley<\/td>\n

What are the main typologies and how to select them technically<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The suction arm is distinguished by these four main technical characteristics:<\/p>\n
    \n
  • Length, working area or radius<\/strong>: fundamental parameter refers to the distance to which the arm hood must reach when it is completely extended as can be seen in the image on the right. Usually the arms are produced in lengths of 2 – 3 – 4 meters. Besides it is not possible because of the supporting structure which should be too heavy.<\/li>\n
  • Diameter of the suction pipe<\/strong>, from the hood to the wall. In this case the most common and available on our platform is the diameter 160 mm; on request 125 and 200 mm are available.<\/li>\n
  • Type of suction pipe<\/strong> which can be with rigid tubes with external supporting structure or with flexible pipe with internal structure. We will cover the pros and cons in another specific article.<\/li>\n
  • Type of hood<\/strong>, the most widely used “historical” ones are conical truncated, such as wall suction arm<\/a><\/span>, others are rectangular and are made of composite or plastic, such as Superflex suction arm<\/a><\/span>\u2122 a new generation product.<\/li>\n
  • <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n

Last point that we want to address in this technical article is that of the two possibilities of use\/ installation of the suction arm:<\/p>\n\"depuratore<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The recommended rated minimum flow rate<\/strong> for a suction arm is from 1200 to 1500 mc\/h depending on the type of pollutant to be sucked, if it is hot fumes you can consider the lowest value, in case there are microdust or a lot of smoke better stay on the high value.<\/p>\n
